It's Show Time in Adelaide - Book in for Bus Tours Now!

Dust off the boots, get the good hat out, its Adelaide Show time.

In just ten days time (Monday, September 6), there will be a mass exodus of Illawarra supporters from south-east Australia to Adelaide in support of the Illawarra Feature Show to be held in conjunction with the Royal Adelaide Show.

Members of the South Australian Branch of the Illawarra Society have been working hard to provide an interesting and varied itinerary to suit visitors.

Tuesday, September 7 will see exhibitors competing in the Illawarra ring with the championship winners moving on to the Supreme ring on the Wednesday.  Also on the Wednesday, the annual meeting of the Federal Society will be held.

While delegates from across Australia are attending the Federal Council meeting on Thursday, September 9, other visitors will be heading off on a bus tour of the Adelaide area.  On Friday a visit of three farms in the Murray Bridge area has been organised.

The range of activities available provides something for everyone but it is important for anyone not already booked for the bus tours, to advise Marie Mueller ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) as soon as possible.

See you in Adelaide.

Life Membership for Harold Thompson

Long time member, Mr Harold Thompson of Nanango, was honoured at the recent Annual Meeting of the Queensland Branch of the Illawarra Cattle Society of Australia, with a State Life Membership.

Harold has a meritorious record of involvement in the Illawarra breed initially through breeding and then through his appointment to the Queensland Branch Committee.

First appointed on August 15, 1978, Harold still holds his position today and the records show that he has missed very few meetings over the years.  He was elected Queensland Branch President on the 3rd of September 2000.

Nobody will forget Harold’s devastating accident on October 17, 2007 when a snapped tree branch fell crushing Harold’s head into his neck shattering his C6 and C7 vertebrae.  While his safety gear saved his life it didn’t save his legs and he has been in a wheelchair ever since.  But his determination and the support of his wife Nancy, has seen Harold continue on in his role as RNA Councillor and on the ICSA Qld Branch Committee.

Congratulations Harold and all the best for the future.

New Qld Branch Committee Appointed

Saturday, August 21 saw the successful holding of the ICSA Queensland Branch Annual General Meeting at the Ledger Family property at Carters Ridge, Queensland.

New committee members, Matt Henry (White Park & Tara Studs) Hodgsonvale and Shane Bourke (Myrtleholme Stud) Warwick were welcomed by re-elected President, Mr Robert Lester.

Mr Lester said it was wonderful to see such young and enthusiastic breeders and members getting involved in the administration side of the breed.  He thanked out-going member, Mr Robbie Radel, for his involvement over the last few years.

Mrs Betty Ledger was re-appointed as Branch Secretary and Mrs Alison Teese as Publicity Officer.

Matt Takes Young Judges Final

The Illawarra breed also achieved success in the Young Judges ring at the 2010 Brisbane Ekka with Hodgsonvale’s Matt Henry taking out the State Final of the Young Judges competition.  Matt will now travel to Adelaide Show in 2011 to compete in the Australian Final.

Matt has a long and distinguished heritage being the son of Mike and Glenda Henry (Tara Stud, Hodgsonvale, Toowoomba) and grandson of Joyce Savage (White Park Stud, Hodgsonvale, Toowoomba).

While Matt has been competing in Young Judges’ competitions for a number of years, he has been on the list of Illawarra Judges for some time and has accepted a number of invitations to judge at shows across Queensland in recent times.  With over twelve months to hone his skills, Matt is sure to do well in Adelaide.  Don't forget your tie and hat!

Congratulations Matt.
